In our apartment we had what I not-so-fondly refer to as an “avalanche freezer”. Every time you would open it, things would come flying out all over you and the floor! Not fun, and not very conducive to purchasing too many frozen foods.
Normally, I’m a big fan of frozen meals, both home cooked (and then frozen) and frozen-from-the-store. They make life so much easier, and I am thrilled to have our new house with a new freezer (drawer style and on the bottom!) that I can stock with yummy foods instead of having to worry about making room and fearing the avalanche every time. I know there are a lot of debates on fresh vs frozen but there are plenty of benefits of frozen foods! Not only convenience, but it’s how “fresh stays fresh”!
I don’t typically “cook” in the mornings. No sizzling bacon or scrambled eggs. I’m not a morning person in the slightest, so just getting up early with my kids is huge. We do quick things like cereal or pop tarts! I don’t know where these frozen Pillsbury toaster strudels have been all my life, but they are awesome. I can never get my icing to look as pretty as it does on the package, so I’m showing you a photo from there. But it’s one of those rare things that actually tastes as good as it looks on the box. I was not disappointed.
I also discovered new thicker eggo waffles. UM these are amazing. I bought them last week and tried them today for the first time and WOAH! Yes please, I’ll have ten more. But really. I had them for breakfast and I’m thinking they may make a good midnight snack too. Thick eggo waffles are my new best friend!
We have pizza night at our house once a week. My husband and I typically split a Freschetta pizza after the kids are in bed adding garlic pepper to the top. (Garlic pepper + pizza = fabulous) I recently discovered mini personal pizzas from Red Baron and my kids were thrilled! They each got their own little pizza and were so proud to be able to eat the whole thing!
After dinner (and after the kids are in bed) it’s back to the freezer to sneak a little treat! I try to buy us one sweet treat a week. That way we don’t over do it or end up splurging on late night ice cream runs. This week I found personal size ice cream sundaes from Smart Ones and I couldn’t resist! Chocolate and cookie dough on top? Yes, please!
I hate that food choices have become a controversial topic for people. Judging others for what they eat and what they choose to feed their children is just mind boggling! I choose the easy route because I would much rather be in the moment with my kids and not stressing about something I hate doing (cooking) than preparing each intricate meal from scratch. Although I didn’t mention them here, we do lots of frozen veggies too. It’s what works for us!
