Last week I had the privilege of attending a special night out for bloggers at Painting with a Twist. It was ridiculously fun and the art we painted matches the colors of my living room perfectly!
Now before I go on I should probably say that I’m no artist. I can do a basic stick figure and that’s about it. Finger painting with my toddlers is about the extent of my painting skills on my own. I’m not one to just purchase a canvas and whip up a masterpiece without some kind of direction and the first time I went to Painting with a twist I was skeptical if they could take my distinct lack of artistic ability and help me turn out something that I wouldn’t be mortified to hang on my wall.
Well, they did! And if you are thinking, maybe it was a fluke…they did it again the second time I went (last week’s event)! Both pieces are going to be hanging in our house (just don’t ask me to paint anything without the help of the instructors at Painting with a twist)!
I had to share this with all of you because it really is the perfect “night out” for moms! The classes typically start at 7 or so in the evening so you have time to get the kids settled down before you head out with your girl friends. It’s the kind of place where you can bring your own drinks and snacks so you can munch or sip on some wine while painting your masterpiece! Everything for the painting is provided (including cute aprons in case you are super-messy like me).
The instructor stands at the front of the room and does the painting step-by-step with you. Even walking around from person to person to make sure every one understood how to do what he was teaching. I’ve worked with two of the instructors now and they are fantastic. (see my painting below…I did that!)
It’s upbeat, fun and a night out with girls doing something creative that is not going to make a mess in your living room that you have to rush to clean up before the kids wake up.
I’m pretty much in love with this concept and I want to do all the paintings. They even have a couple of classes with Doctor Who paintings which makes this Whovian very happy.
While we were at the event last week we had the chance to meet the founders of Painting with a twist and hear their story. It was so inspiring to hear how they started over and started this business after hurricane Katrina and to hear how much their idea has grown in just a few years. From one small place in Louisianna to over 150 locations in 25 states! You can find the closest one to you here.
Have you ever tried Painting with a twist? I’d love to hear which one you painted if you did! If not, take a peek and see if there is a location near you. It’s such a fun girls night or even date night!

I love Painting With A Twist! I went with a group for a surprise party for a friend… her husband organized it and we all went as couples and painted a collaborative piece (each person painted one half while their spouse painted the other half simultaneously). They turned out really neat and we had a blast! I definitely recommend it for a fun night out with one, a few, or a bunch of friends :-D
