I’m not a fan of winter. At all. Give me 100 degree weather (or at least in the 80s) and I’m happy as can be, but when it starts getting cold, I hibernate. This is one of the many reasons I love living in South Texas. It stays hot most of the year here, but lately we have been having a couple months of cold weather instead of the normal couple weeks of chill that I remember enjoying as a kid.
I whine and complain most of the winter and have been known to tell my children that the park is closed because it’s just too cold for me to even remotely want to be outside. Wintertime requires shoes and so many layers and I just don’t love it.
Except one thing. I can totally start shaving less. For a few months, I can “forget” to shave as much as I want because my skin won’t see the light of day until the weather gets hot again.
I remember living in the Philippines as a teen and realizing that the women there don’t shave their legs. Underarms, yes but not legs. It took a few weeks for me to get used to this concept but I adapted and loved every moment of it. Never having to shave. Ever. No nicked legs, no wasting time in the shower. It was wonderful. I wish Americans would take a leaf out of a Filipina’s book and stop it all together. Because truthfully I don’t tend to remember I need to shave until I put shorts on and I’m heading out the door.
Even better is the times when I’ve forgotten until we’re about to leave for the beach. And then dry-shaved before we dash out the door. And then the salt water burned my legs all day.
Awesome stuff, let me tell you.
We love the beach! Since we live fairly close to the gulf we’re able to go multiple times each Summer and make memories together as a family. Some of my favorite times have been with my kids and hubby on the beach! Making sand castles, taking walks, collecting shells! I can hardly wait until the kids are old enough to really enjoy the water because that was always my favorite part of the beach as a kid!
Shaving and I are just not friends. Probably never will be.
Every time I hear commercials on the radio for Ideal Image Laser Hair Removal I’m like hmmm no more shaving sounds pretty fantastic. Except, in a culturally-acceptable way in that I wouldn’t have hair anymore, not in the way that I just decide I don’t care what culture says and I just decide to stop shaving all together and let the hair grow free. (although that’s tempting sometimes).
I don’t think I would ever do it, as I’m a total chicken about things like this. You’re talking to the girl who almost passes out every time she gives blood and cried not while giving birth, but when receiving the vaccinations I was behind on after I gave birth. I’m irrationally afraid of things that aren’t actually scary in real life. But the thought of no more shaving just sounds amazing. If I could sneak forward in time to the day after having it done, that would be perfect.
