Choosing gifts for baby’s first Christmas can be a challenge. Baby is not quiet old enough to want anything and oftentimes, he or she doesn’t need anything quite yet other than what is already stocked in the nursery.

Something you should know about me, I’m a bit obsessed with gifts. I love buying gifts for people, and I will spend weeks thinking about what the perfect present will be for a person’s birthday or for Christmas. So choosing something special for each of my babies’ first Christmas was not optional. It was a must.
Here are my top gift ideas for Baby’s First Christmas!
Baby’s First Christmas Ornament – I buy each of my kids an ornament each Christmas. I try to choose something that is representative of their personality or interests each year. I’m making them a small collection to pass on to them when they get their own places, or to pass along the set as a wedding gift for each of them. The first Christmas I bought each of them a letter “R” ornament, representing them being a part of our family (our last name begins with the letter ‘R’). My son will keep his last name of course, and start his own family of Rs, but our daughter may get married and change her name, so the “R” on her tree can be representative of the family that she came from. It may not be the most useful of gifts right now, but it has great sentimental value for the future!
The Jesus Storybook Bible– A first Bible can be a great Christmas gift. This is what we got for both of our children for the first Christmases. The Jesus Storybook Bible is by far our favorite children’s Bible. The pictures are beautiful, and each story points to Jesus in some way. It is beautifully done, and truthfully the writing have moved me to tears on more than one occasion. It is written at a child’s level, without sacrificing biblical truth or theological concepts.
A Letter – Write them a letter about their first year, and tuck it away to give them at the birth of their first child. Share all the fears, joys and triumphs from your first year as their mom & dad, use the space to pass along encouragement and advice to your baby that will one day be in your shoes as a first time parent.
Slugs & Bugs & Lullabies– This is by far my favorite children’s cd. The songs are adorable and sung by actual singers, instead of annoying children’s choirs. The lyrics are witty and amusing on some of the songs and downright beautiful and tear-jerkers on others! I love playing this CD for my kids, and it boasts one of the first songs my son ever learned to sing “tractor tractor”!
Photo Book – Creating a photo book commemorating baby’s life up to this point can be a great Christmas gift for baby. Websites such as Shutterfly and Snapfish often offer great deals on photo books during the Christmas season. Both sites are easy to use and you can create a beautiful book for baby to enjoy for years to come! My son loves looking at his book and finding pictures of all his family members in it. He always asks what he was doing as a baby and wants me to describe each photo to him in detail. It has been a fun treasure for him as he grows up! He even loves to look at his sister’s book now that she’s come along!

Ha! I actually didn’t get anything for my daughter. I figured all our family would buy her more than enough.

I do a special Christmas ornament every year for each of my kids. It’s a fun tradition and when they move out, they’ll have enough ornaments to decorate their own tree.

I was just thinking about putting together my twins’ Christmas lists this week (they will be 9 months around Christmas) and want to put on it… my parents and in-laws want actual gift ideas, though. So these are some good ideas for us as a family – they’re not going to cut it for our families!
Here’s what I actually did put on their wish lists:
