As we work on learning to read this year, lowercase b and lowercase d continue to be one of the biggest challenges facing our little Kindergartner. We worked through different ways to tell the two letters apart, but right now, it’s just coming down to needing practice so that he can quickly identify which is lowercase letter b and which is lowercase letter d as he reads words.
To give him a bit of extra help at home, I made these printable lowers b and d practice sheets. Scroll to the bottom to get your free printables.
I wanted to make sure these worksheets were fun for my son to do, and not something he’d dread.
The first sheet has a long line of lowercase b & d down one side and pictures of fun things that start with letter b or letter d. It’s his job to connect the letters with the word pictures on the other side.
We used erasable colored pencils, which came in handy when he almost connected a lowercase d to a bird! Oops!
The next sheet again has rows of bs and ds with pictures on the other side but these already match up correctly. This time, the child must write the letter a few times across the paper to bring it to the word picture it matches. I encouraged him to repeat “b” or “d” to himself as he wrote the letter to help cement the shape into his mind.
The next two pages were the most fun, as they are simply coloring sheets! One with letter b for bear and one with letter d for dog!
The children can color in each letter and then color the picture however they would like.
We had so much fun practicing letter b and letter d, I’m sure he’ll be asking me to print up another packet for him soon! You can see all 4 pages that come in the free printable lowercase b and d practice sheets.
