Back to school means shots for most kiddos and while mine are too young to be going to school I’ve seen the long lines at the Pediatrician’s office and waited in them myself and can personally say that this time of year is not super-fun at the Dr’s office. Not that it’s every an overwhelming joy to take the kids to the pediatrician, but it seems like every one is stressed and running behind because of the large number of kiddos needing their booster immunizations before school starts again.
While we may complain about the lines and the kids don’t enjoy the process of getting their vaccines, can we just take a sec to realize how blessed we are to live in a nation where vaccines are so readily available? It is such a huge blessing and I am so thankful to be able to vaccinate myself and my kiddos!
I wasn’t vaccinated as a child, but as I grew up and began educating myself and talking to family members in the medical field about it, I decided to vaccinate myself and my kids! Although I was in my 20s when I received my first shot I knew it was important for me to do. Sure, the whooping cough wouldn’t affect me that much, were I to catch it, but it could be fatal to my infant daughter or if I were to come in contact with an elderly person or babies in public places. I didn’t want to be taking that chance for my own family, or for those around me, so I chose to get caught up on my shots.
Thankfully, you don’t even have to visit the Dr’s office to get caught up on your boosters or get those back-to-school immunizations for the kids. Just stop by your local Walgreen’s and get it done in the pharmacy there. The Pharmacist will even report back to your physician so that the record of the shots will go on your regular records. Most insurances are accepted and you don’t even need an appointment!
I called to make a well check appointment for my daughter last week and couldn’t get her in until sometime in September because of all the back to school appointments happening right now. SEPTEMBER! I’m fine with waiting since we don’t have school deadlines to beat, but this might be the perfect option for those of you rushing to get it done before school starts again.
The best part is, Walgreen’s has once again teamed up with the United Nations for the Shot at life campaign. For every vaccine given at Walgreen’s they donate one vaccine to a child in a developing nation. There are SO many kids being helped through this campaign right now, in areas where these diseases are so prevalent that the children are at a huge risk of being harmed by them without the vaccination. It’s such a simple way to help in areas that we normally don’t have the opportunity to assist. You don’t even have to do anything extra, just get your shot at the more convenient location, Walgreen’s and help a kiddo in need!
Have you gotten your vaccinations yet this year? Willing to give Walgreen’s a try?
