Kids are headed back to school and most of the country is enjoying a slight drop in temperature as we prepare for Fall. That’s what I’m hearing anyway. Being a South Texas girl myself we’re still enjoying heat in the 90s and bracing ourselves for hurricane season.
Even if our weather doesn’t match the Fall that the rest of the country is getting, trust me when I say that Texas moms are very excited for school to be back in session and life to return to it’s ordinary rhythm.
I love Summer, and all the opportunities for fun and family togetherness that it offers, but I end up missing my people a lot too. Getting together with friends is a challenge year round, but Summer is the worst. With everyone’s vacations, staycations and just plain Summer busyness there are close-by friends that I haven’t seen for almost the entire Summer!
Thankfully we are all headed back to our routine which means more time nurturing relationships with other moms and fostering that village community.
And yes, this is usually done over wine.
“Wine nights” as we call them are a monthly staple around here and JaM Cellars makes it really easy for us to have stress-free get togethers.
As we step in to September, you can start nurturing those relationships too by hosting your own wine night with JaM Cellars wine and a few great friends. JaM Cellars has three delicious wines to choose from, Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet and Toast Sparkling. You can find them for under $20 at your local grocery store. (Use the store finder here to find the ones closest to you that carry it.)
Usually, I am the one to supply the wine for our wine night gatherings. I’ll set it out on the bar and the allow my guests to each bring something small and easy.
One of the first rules of wine night is that no one is allowed to cook anything. We’re all moms so we already spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing meals and snacks for everyone. Wine night shouldn’t have any of those worries associated with it. Instead, people can simply swing by the store (alone!) on the way to pick up whatever they happen to be craving at the moment.
That tends to supply all the food we could ever need to go with our tasty wine. Between the JaM Cabernet and the Butter Chardonnay you really can’t go wrong with your snack pairings.
My personal favorite is the JaM Cab! With tasting notes of blackberries, black plums, black currant, cassis, and more, the fruit is STRONG in this one!!! It actually received the Gold medal, Texsom Int’l Wine Awards in March of this year.
The melts in your mouth, creamy-licious Butter Chardonnay is a huge favorite among the white-wine lovers in our group.
I haven’t tried the sparkling toast flavor yet, but I can’t WAIT to pick some up for our next wine night.
The secret to a great wine night for your own little mom village is to keep things SIMPLE. If you have your friends, and some good wine, the rest can fall into place.
Keep things like arrival/leaving time flexible so that moms can put their kids to bed and not be worried about showing up late.
Also, shoot out a text beforehand and remind everyone that it’s not a fashion competition. Sweat pants and yoga pants are TOTALLY welcome (but if some one wants to get all dressed up that works too!).
To have the perfect wine night, remove all stres barriers and make it all about enjoying some good drinks and some good fun TOGETHER.
When was the last time you had a good night with your friends? Are you using this back to school season to get back together with your friends? Tell us about it in the comments!
