We always talk about how rough bedtime is with kids. We send them to bed and then they are up again asking for water. Or suddenly they need to use the restroom three more times.
Or they’ve suddenly realized that they are harboring a deep terror for ceiling fans.
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the National Sleep Foundation. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Whatever the case may be, getting a kid to go to sleep is not a task for the weak at heart. Getting them to stay asleep is another thing altogether.
What we don’t talk about as much is how hard it can be for moms to go to sleep, even after the bedtime war with the kiddos has long since been won.
I for one, have the hardest time falling asleep at night. This problem is made all the more frustrating by having a husband who can fall asleep without even trying. Early on in our marriage I would get all offended if he’d fall asleep on me in the middle of talking. I’d be talking about my day or telling him something I deemed important…only to hear him snoring halfway through what I was saying. My frustrations disappeared one night when he was talking TO ME and fell asleep in the middle of one of his own sentences. The guy just can’t stay awake when he’s ready for bed. It’s crazy.
Then there’s me, who might be running on 5 non-consecutive hours of sleep a night and still can’t fall asleep without laying in bed for at least 30 minutes first.
I love Becky’s joke about moms going to bed, because it is SO true!
Click to see the full image…it’s so funny! A lot of people felt like this was a slam to husbands, but it’s not. If anything as moms we need to learn from them. There’s a time of the day when we need to be able to shut off the to-do lists and worries and simply go to bed. but most of us can’t I know I struggle with it every single night!!
I know that compared to some people my slowness to fall asleep is still nothing compared to their struggles. I’m thankful that the National Sleep Foundation is there to help for those times in life! Beyond Tired shares stories (many of which from moms like you and me) of sleep struggles and what different people are doing to work through their sleep issues.
If you struggle with sleep too, sleep.org is another great resource that can help!
