As mothers, we often end up dead-last on the list of people for whom we care. We nurture our kids, we love on our hubbies and care for every one else, all too frequently, at the end of the week have little to nothing left for ourselves. I wanted to take a moment to talk about the importance of healthy habits for women, especially moms.
While taking care of the family is good and admirable, we have to remember to take care of ourselves too, and let our husbands take care of us! I know personally, that time spent completely alone is essential to my mental well being. My husband helps to care for me, by making sure I get that time every week. Even if it’s just a few hours on a Saturday night, it makes a world of difference!
There are several other things I do that help me to take time for myself throughout the week as well. It’s so essential to take that time to care for yourself and not feel guilty for doing it!
I’ve been extra stressed lately with everything that we have going on right now. I’m packing our house for the move next month (we close on our house in just over a week!), I’m working on the final edits for the print version of my ebook, I’m blogging on both of my sites, along with all the “normal” mom/wife stuff that I do all the time. My plate is filled to overflowing. In the past, writing has been my way to rest and relax at the end of a long week, but now that I’m writing as my job, it’s not quite as relaxing as it once was. I’ve recently realized that I have to find a new way to rest, that isn’t writing. I still love to do it, but regardless of my passion, writing is my job and it can’t count as rest time anymore.
This weekend I loaded up my kids and went to Walgreens® to find some things for a mental health evening. I walked around the store and found so many options, I might just have to start making this a monthly tradition! I was particularly drawn towards the liquid vitamins that add flavoring to your water. One of the biggest ways that I am trying to take better care of myself is by drinking more water. This was the perfect healthy-solution for me, because the flavoring helps me to remember to drink, while also giving me the vitamins my body needs (which I also frequently forget to take).
After the vitamins I grabbed everything I needed for a spa day at home. Just because I can’t afford a trip to the real spa, doesn’t mean I can’t afford some rest and pampering! I’m so looking forward to a morning by myself to use my deep cleansing stress-relieving face mask and painting my nails with the snazzy, sparkly polish that I purchased. (You can see what my nails looked like BEFORE my rest-day in the picture below. Just one small example of how badly I needed some time to myself!)
My trip to Walgreens® was not all that expensive at all but it provided me some much needed rest and relaxation for a simple evening at home. It’s amazing what just a few hours taking care of you can do for your stress levels!
When was the last time you paused to take care of yourself? Can you schedule out an hour of this week to rest and relax, even if it’s just at home? #herhealth #collectivebias

Oh I”m glad I’m not the only one who’s nails get to looking like that! I’m a big fan of a bubble bath, with the door closed and daddy in charge! (or no one else home at all.. but that doesn’t happen much!)

My nails look JUST LIKE THAT right now, except they’re a robin’s egg blue color. I really should fix them, they look pretty busted. I love that Walgreens has everything you need to pamper yourself without stressing out in a large store. Keep up that healthy hydration! It’s good for your skin too! #client

I have family coming over in less than an hour and I have to have everything done for dinner!!! Oh My God, seriously? I just spent all day slaving over every restaurant curb side in my town and I still have to delicately transfer all those individual foods to my own baking dishes so I can fool my mother-in-law! I survey the rug and decide to give it one good shot and if it doesn’t come clean I will go to “Plan B” and destroy the evidence.
