With the holidays just around the corner thoughts of decorating and wish lists are filling my head. Balancing what the kids want/need, our budget, a festive house, holiday activities at TWO schools and everything else that’s normally on my plate just seems like an awful lot. Which means my normal “cleaning routine” is not always getting done.
Thankfully, through the years we’ve figured out how to do speed cleaning to make the house drop in ready when some one texts that they are on their way over with hot cocoa or a gift for one of the kids.
First, you have to make sure you are well stocked AT ALL TIMES with cleaning supplies like Sparkle® paper towels and various cleaning soaps so you can do a quick run through of the house without trouble.
One of your first stops always needs to be the bathroom. Make sure there is plenty of toilet paper and soap so your guests don’t feel awkward. If you have little kids like I do, it doesn’t hurt to make sure the toilet has recently been flushed.
To be prepared with Angel Soft® bath tissue and Sparkle® paper towel all holiday season swing by Family Dollar to pick up the 12 count family bath tissue for softness and extra strength at a great price. While you’re there you can get your Sparkle paper towels because they will get the speed cleaning jobs around the house done for an awesome price as well.
Next, head over to the Dining Room. Keep a festive plastic table cloth on hand so that it’s easy to pull out a new one if you need to. I’ve found these are a lot easier to wipe down than the table itself so the kids can help with that after meals and if it’s not looking great, you can just get out a new one so it looks fresh and decorative for your guests.
Next, do a quick once-over the counters with your Sparkle® paper towels from Family Dollar. I like to fold one up and lightly wet it to use as I wipe down the countertops. It’s a quick way to collect any crumbs that might have “sprung up” from little hands in the kitchen between meals that you were cooking.
While in the kitchen grab a huge trash bag and walk through the house throwing anything away that you don’t need. Carrying the bag around will save you a LOT of time walking to/from the trash can with every new piece of unneeded paper you find in the living room from your child’s craft time.
Give each child a small box and tell them to run through the house putting anything in it that belongs in their room. They can do this while you work through the kitchen, so any things that didn’t make it in the box to their room is fair game to be thrown in the trash bag! Trust me…kids will SPEED CLEAN if they know this is what’s coming.
If you have time, run through the house with a vacuum, even if it’s just in the most obvious of areas. Even though I normally sweep the tile and vacuum the carpet, when I’m crunched for time, I’ll just run over both quickly with the vacuum and come back to get the corners and under furniture later.
Lastly, light a candle that smells like gingerbread or peppermint and you’ll be set for those unexpected guests in about 30 minutes (or less!)
The key is to remember to keep your cabinets stocked with everything that you need, which is why we recommend stopping by Family Dollar to pick up your Angel Soft® bath tissue, Sparkle® paper towel, and other supplies you like to keep handy for guests. Be sure to check out this video about the Click Shop Save coupon deals they offer with the Family Dollar App. You can save $0.50 on both Sparkle and Angel soft ($1 if you buy both!).
