When I was pregnant with my first baby I knew I wanted to find a way to bring my own, modest hospital gown with me for the delivery. Maybe it’s all the movies where people are walking hallways in labor with their bottoms hanging out, but I made the decision that a modest, personal hospital gown was the best decision and well worth the price we would pay to get one.

After searching around online, I finally settled on a Gownie.
There are a variety of color and pattern options to choose from so that you can pick something that fits your unique style and taste.
While they vary in pricing a bit, most of the modest, personal hospital gowns I found were around $35. That’s a steep price when you consider you’ll only be wearing it once, BUT if you are nervous about wearing one of those awkward tie-up gowns and think you’ll feel self conscious, it can be more than worth it!
The last thing you will want to be worrying about while in labor is how you feel about what you are wearing!
I even talk to my Ob/gyn about bringing my own gown from home and she was very supportive. She gave a few warnings about how dirty it would get (obviously) and then approved!
What she looked for, was that they’d have “easy access” to everything they needed. This modest delivery gown has snaps all down the front, so it’s easy for nurses and doctors to help during the delivery process, but can be fully snapped when you are laboring so you don’t have to worry about accidentally flashing everyone.
I loved having mine, it put my mind at ease about something that I had been stressing over! We all know that stress during pregnancy is a no-no, so I found it worth the $35 dollars for a little bit of extra comfort in the labor and delivery room!
These modest hospital gowns also snap at the top for easy breastfeeding and skin-to-skin time with your baby after birth. It made things really easy and I didn’t have to worry about finding my nursing cover right away.
That was another nice thing about brining my own gown from home. The first “family photos” we have are in something bright and cheery that I chose, instead of a drab, discolored hospital gown.
My own hospital gown did get pretty yucky during delivery, but I was able to throw it in the washer and it cleaned right up! I would have used it for my daughter’s birth too if she didn’t come literally 5 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. I had NO time to put it on!
It was packed up in my hospital bag that got left in the car as my husband sprinted in to the hospital from the parking lot. Since most people don’t have crazy, 5-minute second births, you should be good to use your Gownie for all your kiddos, if you choose to get one!
