Are you gearing up for the back to school rush? It can be quite pricey, getting kiddos ready for school, which is why, today, I’m sharing a few tips for back to school savings!
1. Buy in Bulk – We all know that most foods are cheaper when you buy them in bulk, but did you know that the same is true for school supplies? You can often buy enough pencils, notebooks, and other supplies to last several months, in just one trip! The White Cloud Facial Tissue page offers facial tissue multi-packs with 3-6 packages of tissues in one box! Deals like this are perfect for the mama with multiple children going back to school, or for the mom who likes to stock up and save!
2. Use Coupons – I don’t always clip coupons, but back to school shopping is the perfect time to clip a few, even if you are not regularly an extreme couponer! Many stores are offering steep discounts via coupon, so now is the time to search for a few coupons for some extra back to school savings, even if you are not usually a coupon clipper!
3. Browse Online – Before you go shopping, spend some time online to figure out who has the best deals! This will save you time and money, because you won’t have to drive from store-to-store comparing prices. This will also save you some time if there are specific brands or products that you are searching for. You can find out online which stores carry the brands that you love!
4. Social Media – Follow your favorite stores and brands on Facebook, Twitter or another form of social media. Many stores and brands now off exclusive coupons to their social media followers, so it is definitely worth it to take a second and hit “like” or “follow”.
5. Craigslist – Search your local listings on craigslist, for the bigger back-to-school items that you might need. You can often find graet deals on cute clothes, computers, and even shoes!
6. Only Buy What You Need – If the the kids still have nice clothes that fit, don’t buy an entire new wardrobe. If you have extra, blank, notebooks leftover from last year, use those up first, before buying all new! By using what you can from around the house, you can spread out the cost for school supplies throughout the year, instead of needing it all at one time.
What is your best back-to-school savings tip? I’d love to hear them!

You could go in with other families too in buying bulk. It could help cut the cost for everyone.

It’s been a very long time since I bought school supplies. But I remember buying things through out the year and stashing them. Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop xo P.S. I like Whitney’s bulk and share idea :-)

I think the best tip is to only buy what is recommended by the teachers as necessities when buying paper products. I always liked to wait until after the first day to see what was required. Many schools pass out free planners. When it comes to pencils and pens, there are never enough. Staples always has excellent 1 cent deals and dollar deals starting in the summer.
I think a lot of students feel like they need to have all the binders, tablets, and pencils on the first day. In reality, they probably only need a few pencils and a notebook.
Another saver is buying the 1cent folders (on sale at staples now) and line the inside fold and outside fold with duct tape. Then, hole punch those and use them in the binder. They are much cheaper and very difficult to rip or tear. As a holder for small papers and pencils, pens, etc. in bonders, use a zip top bag. Line the bottom seam in duct tape and hole punch to store in the binder.
Finally, 8 pocket folders work great to keep the whole day organized. I like to cover the front and back with duct tape and remove the wire binding. Then, I use the 50 cent ribbon from Joann Fabrics and weave it through the holes. It makes for a very durable folder that will last at least one year.
Duct tape or painters tape is really my best advice on saving back to school money. It reinforces all of the notebooks and folders that you buy so they do not need to be replaced as frequently.

My biggest tip is to not take your kids school supply shopping! They always want the high-end character notebooks or puppy folders. So I go by myself and spluge on the 5 cent plain folders or 17 cent plain notebooks.

Could it be just me or does it look like a few of the comments appear like coming from brain dead folks?
:-P And, if you are writing on additional places, I’d like to keep up with
everything new you have to post. Could you make a list of the complete urls of your community sites like your

So true, Paula. Online shopping is great because you can scout for discounts, and yes on buying on what you need! That’s my financial theory in general and it has saved me a whole lot :)
