Last week we went on vacation to a beach about 2 hours from our home. My husband was able to come for the weekend and then went home (to work) for the rest of the week. The kids and I were able to stay for the remainder of the time, and a couple friends and family members drove up to go to the beach with us a couple of the days we were down there.
Vacations are always fun and hectic too. So here are 10 things I learned while on our trip!
- Dada/hubby is awesome, and a week without him is a really long time.
- Porta potties (especially beach ones!) are about 11,000 times more disgusting when you take your three year old in one. Not an experience I’d ever like to repeat.
- “Vacation” now means waking up two hours early because the kids aren’t used to sleeping in the new beds and wake one another up every morning. This translates to a cranky baby in the morning because she didn’t get enough sleep (thanks for waking her up brother!) and a cranky 3 year old in the afternoon because he can’t nap but could really use some extra rest.
- Seaweed is disgusting, particularly so when there is 5 feet of it to wade through before you reach the water. Seaweed also creates a great barrier between small children and the water, meaning they can’t get to the water faster than I can reach them. For this reason, I love seaweed.
- Hotels aren’t childproof. I should have planned ahead for that, and done a walk through of the rooms before I released the kiddos on them. Thankfully nothing was actually damaged, but we had several close calls.
- Getting new hand-me-down toys from your sister right before you leave for your trip is pretty wonderful. Brand new toys in a brand new place = childhood bliss.
- Playing with sand toys in rocks/pebbles is just a fun as playing with them in the sand, and not nearly as messy!
- Leaving a week before closing on your house is both awesome and stressful. Hooray for time away from all the craziness, but the constant worry that I’m not going to have enough time to do all the packing that needs done when I get home, is not very pleasant.
- Not all hotels have wifi in the rooms, so don’t plan to work in the evenings while the kids are sleeping.
- Vacation is wonderful but there’s nothing like coming home!
