Isn’t this the sweetest video? I love the way the grandfather’s wisdom was passed down to the generations that followed.
I was really fortunate, to have known my great grandparents for much of my early life. I remember visiting them, playing board games at their house and even sledding down a hill with my great grandfather (he was in his 80s!)
I had really amazing great grandparents, who still inspire me to this day. Their example of a happy marriage, has been invaluable to me in my own marriage. They married young, and stayed happily married their entire lives. My Great Grandfather was a constant joker, always chuckling and making Great Grandma roll her eyes. It reminds me so much of my hubby and myself. Which makes me smile, because I want a marriage as enduringly happy as theirs was.
Like the grandfather in the videow, they passed down lots of wisdom as well, including a quote that My Grandfather was known for: “Always speak the truth…but don’t always speak”.
Now Great Grandpa wasn’t advocating for being deceitful, by saying this, he was simply reminding us to speak kind words. It may be true that we didn’t like what was prepared for dinner that night (though that never happend when Great Grandma was cooking!), but that doesn’t mean we should say so! Sometimes, the wisest, kindest thing to do, is to keep your mouth shut. Great words of wisdom from a wonderful man.
I have so many happy memories of time spent with my great grandparents, but that’s one quote that I know I’ll never forget!
