This post was sponsored by Jay Franco & Sons and contains affiliate links but it’s a completely true story about my oldest kiddo and all opinions are my own.
My oldest son has always had quirky sleeping habits. Before he was even a year old, he figured out how to climb out of his crib and every pack n’ play that we own. We even tried borrowing other pack n’ plays from friends but in a matter of minutes he would have launched himself out of those as well.
I should have known then that we’d be on a wild ride trying to get this child to sleep like a regular human, but I remained blissfully unaware for a few more months.

We upgraded kiddo to a “big boy bed” (you know, the beds literally ever other person just calls “twin size”? One of those). His grandma bought him some dump truck bedding and he was immensely proud of his new freedom and HUGE bed.
His time spent on top of the bed was short lived though. Soon after, receiving it, he decided that his ceiling fan that he’d loved all his life, was now, in fact the most frightening thing on planet earth. At this point he started sleeping underneath his bed.
I can’t tell you how terrifying it is to go into your 2 year old’s room where you put him to sleep peacefully on top of his bed and him to just be GONE. It took some searching in the dark before I finally saw his little toes peeking out from underneath the bed.
We struggled through getting him to sleep at least out in the middle of the floor or next to a wall but not under his bed until we moved into our new house.
In this house he isn’t scared of anything. He has a comfortable enough bed, but we’ll find him snoozing over a pile of LEGOs. Sleeping in the hallway, and most recently, he built himself a little nest in his closet and has begun sleeping there.
Why oh why does my child not just sleep in his bed? I really don’t know. I’ve considered moving his bed out of his room because it’s taking up space he’s not using, but I always leave it in there, just in case he decides to sleep like everyone else again.
This week, we tried something new. Jay Franco sent us a Spiderman pillow buddy and a Zippy Sack. My son had been begging for a Zippy Sack for awhile now (thanks television commercials) and I was excited to try it out.
I put both on his bed while he was at school one day.

When he got home I told him in a serious voice to go look at his bed. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of that instruction but he marched to his room curiously and I could hear his gasps and shrieks all the way from the living room. Then he ran in to tell me all about it.
Y’all. This kid hasn’t stopped sleeping on his bed since that day. Every. Single. Night.
I don’t remember the last time he had a streak of sleeping in his actual bed for this long! It’s wonderful.
I’m not sure what the allure is for him. It could be the softer-than-soft fleece that the zippy sack is made from.
It could be how epic spiderman looks.
Or even that he likes being confined a bit more, as he leaves the Zippy Sack mostly zipped up while he sleeps.
I have no idea, but I’m loving it. He’ll sleep so much better in his bed, and I no longer have to worry about tripping over him when I go in his room to check on him at night.
We’ve loved using it and sister is already asking when she can get one too!
You can order some for your kids on amazon using the links above or pop in to Walmart and pick them up there the next time you’re in the store. You can also get a super cute Spiderman poncho towel which I LOVE for the beach (any one else get stuck carrying beach toys, and then be asked to carry towels that keep falling off the kids too? Fun times.)!

So my friends, tell me. Have any of your kids ever done something like this? How do you get your kids to sleep in their actual beds? Share in the comments!
