I have decided that this title “stay at home working mommy” is what fits my situation best. I love the idea of being a fulltime stay at home mom. I love the bonding benefits it would give my child. I love that it would enable me to cook and clean and do lots of things around the house so my hubby won’t have to worry about that stuff when he gets home from work. I love having free time to get to play with my boy, teach him new things, nurture and spoil him etc. But there is one thing I don’t like about it… I don’t like being home all the time. I know there are play groups and such, but that is not enough for me! I want to be out and about and busy!!! Being busy at home, to me, is not the same thing as being busy outside my home. I get sort of claustrophobic when I have been home for too long. I get grumpy and feel like I’m going crazy if I have to stay just inside my apartment complex for too long. It just does not work for me.
I’m a stay at home – working mommy
Thankfully, I found a solution that gives me and baby the best of both worlds. I went back to work… but I’m taking Little Man with me. This was my first week back and I’m loving it. I work part time at a gym 10 minutes from my house. Since I work in the child center part of the gym I am able to have Little Man with me the entire time. Meaning I can still nurse him on demand, pick him up when he cries, change him etc. and I get to be out of the house. Interacting with adults and plenty of children <3 There is something about having lots of kids around that I love. I love the noise, and the chaos, its like you can feel the creativity and excitement in the air. I think it’s great, and apparently my son does too. I was concerned about how he would handle being in a new environment like that while also not getting as much 1 on 1 attention from me, but he has really enjoyed it every time I have taken him up there. He likes watching the other kids play and you can tell he can’t wait to be big enough to be a part of the action! Today I put him in the crib at work with his paci and a toy and he fell asleep by himself. No crying, no fussing, just sleeping ;) I had been working on training him to do this for about 2 weeks, and he got it! this time anyway.
For me working there part time is giving me and Little Man all of the benefits that me staying home full time would, and more. It helps us because I am happier since I get to be out and about in busyness a couple times a week so I am more patient with him at home. He is also benefitting from being in a different environment and around other kids, while still not having to be separated from his mommy.
This was the perfect solution for my family. So I’m proudly a “stay at home working mommy” ;)
