Hello, Beauty Through Imperfection readers! It is Lindsay from My Creative Days back to share a fun craft you can do with your toddlers. I think sometimes parents think that toddlers are too little to do crafts, but they have so much fun creating and there are so many ways to get them involved with crafts. Most crafts can be modified for any age and/or stage you are working with and this apple craft is a great example. If you were doing this with a preschool age child, he/she could rip the paper, use a glue stick to glue it on the paper plate and even cut out the stem and leaf. I have modified this activity so that a toddler is able to get the same outcome, but with a little different approach.
For this apple craft, you will need:
- Paper plate
- Glue
- Red, brown and green construction paper
- Stapler
The first thing I did was tear the red construction paper into pieces. Then, I cut a stem (rectangle) from the brown paper and a leaf shape from the green paper.
To start the activity, I put a dab of glue on the plate and then asked the child to put a red piece of paper on the glue. This is a great fine motor skill activity and also great for color recognition.
It is so much fun to watch toddlers try new things and see how they react to it. Getting glue on their fingers is a whole new activity in itself! ;-)
Once we had the paper plate full of red paper, I stapled the stem and the leaf to the top.
Crafting with toddlers is loads of fun. It is a fun process and activity for them and even the simplest crafts nurture their curiosity, creativity, fine motor skills and helps them with listening to directions. Craft on!
