Do you ever find yourself bored with every day life? The same-ness of it all tends to bother me from time to time.
Get up, kids to school, work, eat, sleep… on and on it goes in a never ending circle of the same thing repeated.
I hesitate to even type out this truth, I feel guilty that I am so often annoyed by something that should be a source of joy.
All this repetitiveness is, at the root, good. I’m grateful for a job I love. I am immeasurably thankful to have healthy kids that require a downright ordinary routine of school and games and giggles. I’m thankful for a husband that helps me manage everything and keeps me from being overwhelmed.
But still… over and over our routine goes. I am busy but often bored. While remembering how there are blessings in the ordinary helps me be content, I don’t think it’s wrong to yearn for an adventure now and then. So I try to find it in special moments we create.
I’ve made a bucket list for our city and we’re slowly making our way through it. There are literally adventures around every corner of our city and I love having the chance to find them. Truthfully, it was slow going at first. Searching the internet for an adventure when I’m bored usually means I won’t be able to find something in time to do it that day. So the list was important.
Now, each weekend we’re able to choose one thing from it to go and do. One single adventure that will bring a smile to our faces and make memories that last.
One week we toured a 15 million gallon water cistern underneath the city. I’ve lived here most of my life, and never knew it was there, much less that it could be toured.
It was gorgeous and spooky, and quite honestly cool enough that I want to go back after we finish the rest of the list.
We found what has to be the coolest street in Houston with street art that changes on the whim of the artists. We watched them paint and even snapped a few photos while we were there because ADVENTURE.
This weekend? We’re headed to dinosaur valley to check out the dino footprints (yes, for real!!!)…I’ll tell you about it when we get back.
Finding time to schedule in adventures here and there has made me appreciate life so much more. Yes, I love the little moments, the time with my kids, and my job, but the big moments exploring our city is pretty awesome too.
