Some weeks feel longer than others, and this week? This was one of the LONG ones. My daughter had her first grade field trip, which she was excited about but also terribly nervous about. She was convinced she’d be kicked out if she accidentally made too much noise and was very concerned about the seating on the bus. Most of the week she was a bundle of excited nerves, leading up to the big day on Friday.
Field trip came and went. She survived, and had a great time, but we were definitely all needing some down time to relax and reconnect after this week of anxious kiddo nerves.
I ran to Walmart and got some supplies…
A Friday night Breakfast-for-Dinner family party was just what my little ones needed, and hey, maybe I needed it a little bit too.
I grabbed a box of Eggo Waffles, some Reddi Wip and all kinds of toppings and went home to totally make my kids’ day with a make-your-own waffle bar!
They are always up for a good waffle night, and honestly after this week, my husband and I loved that we could pull of this dinner surprise in a matter of MINUTES. We had golden, crips waffles fresh from the toaster and ready for the whole family in the same amount of time that it takes to pull up Spirit Riding Free on Netflix.
Not over complicated, not expensive, but a night of fun that the kids are going to talk about for a long time.
I mean, just look at his face when he realized he was getting all that Reddi Wip on his Chocolate Chip Eggo Waffle.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family is not dairy-free but we tried this Reddi Wip made with Coconut Milk at a friend’s house a few weeks ago and fell in love. It is DELICIOUS and I knew I wanted it to top our chocolate chip waffles. Like all Reddi Wip, it has less hydrogenated oils than other frozen whipped toppings, and whichever flavor you get you seriously can’t go wrong.
The kids got straight to work piling on the toppings and creating their own breakfast (for dinner) creations with lots of Spirit!
Spirit Riding Free is one of our family’s absolute favorite Netflix shows for kids. It’s set in the 19th century and it’s about a little girl, Lucky, who relocates from the city to the country and befriends a horse named Spirit. They have all sorts of adventures and learn about friendship, loyalty, bravery and so much more.
I love that my daughter has this show with strong female characters to watch, but honestly my son gets into it too. Whenever it comes on the whole family (even my husband) sings the song and usually we all get caught up in the show too. We can hardly wait for the next season to come out!
If you have big Spirit Riding Free fans in your house (or if you just now turned it on and BECAME raving fans) you’ll definitely want to check out all of these fun Spirit activities from Dreamworks. They have free coloring sheets, sleepover games and so much more!
Our printer is broken right now, so I haven’t been able to print them out for my daughter just yet, but I know she’s going to flip for the mazes and word searches when I do.
If you’ve had a rough week like we have, or you just want to do something special for the kids, I highly recommend a fun little waffle bar like we created and watching Spirit Riding Free. A perfect finish to a bad…or good day.
