I’ve been in a reading mood lately, and my bedside table is filled to overflowing! I’ve got several things checked out from the library and a small stack that I just purchased as well. Here’s what is on my current book list.

Surprised by Motherhood: Everything I Never Expected about Being a Mom by Lisa Jo Baker – Lisa Jo is one of my absolute favorite bloggers, and I have every confidence that this book will make me laugh and cry and help my heart. I’m only a couple chapters in and it has not disappointed yet! In fact, I already have a mental list going of friends I need to let borrow this book, or those that I need to purchase it for. It’s amazing. If you are a mom, you need this book. That’s just the kind of writing Lisa-Jo does. It’s healing and it’s raw and it’s wonderful.
Balancing It All by Candace Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner from Full House) – As soon as I heard Candace was writing this book, I was excited. The tagline reads: my story of balancing priorities and purpose. Love it! Balance is something I’m constantly working on and trying to figure out how it looks in my own life. I’m really interested to hear Candace’s story and tips for how she makes it all work as a mom/wife/actress/author/christian/everything else!
One Thousand Gifts By Ann Voskamp – I feel like I’m a bit behind, because I’ve never read this one! It was so popular awhile back, I feel like every blogger was reading it and writing about it! I didn’t have the money to purchase it at the time and then I forgot about it! Hubby’s grandma just gave me a copy of it, I’m on chapter two and already loving it! This book is a “dare to live fully right where you are”. I know I need work in this area. Contentment is something I’m always working at, and this book has already been helpful!
The Novels
I read novels in phases. When I’m in the mood to read I can easily get through a new book in one day. I love dystopian YA novels, so most all of these are from that genre!
UnSouled by Neal Shusterman – This is the final book in the Unwind Dystology. I’ve been waiting for this book for a long time. The series has been so chilling and thought provoking, I’m anxious to see how he ends it. The book is set at some point in the future after then “2nd civil war” in America, which was fought over abortion. After a long and intense war the Pro-lifers and Pro-choicers finally came to an agreement and abortion was outlawed. In it’s place “unwinding” was set up, which is the process of harvesting all of the body parts from a living teenager and donating them to others. It has been a gripping series, that really makes you think! I’ve always been pro-life but this book made it so much more real. The absolute horror of unwinding made abortion seem that much more terrible to me, even though I was already pro-life. It’s gruesome but a good series.
The Fallout By S.A. Bodeen – This is the sequel to The Compound which was a fantastic read! The premise of the first book was a family that went underground during a crisis on the earth (I don’t remember exactly what happened). The plot carries you through their experiences undground during their 6th year under. The way the family copes, even with two of their members (presumed dead) above ground. Crisis after crisis hits them down below. I couldn’t put the compound down, and from what I’ve read of fallout thus far, it seems to be just as gripping!
I’ve got a couple other novels on my shelf to be read, but I’ll save those for another time (if any one else is as interested in dystopia as I am I’ll be happy to share!
What I want to read soon:
Rhinestone Jesus: Saying Yes to God When Sparkly, Safe Faith Is No Longer Enough By Kristen Welch with Ann Voskamp – This one is not out yet, it officially launches May 1st, but I’m planning to pre-order it this week! I love Kristen and Ann’s blogs and can’t wait to read the book!

Honorable Mention:
I couldn’t make a book list without including my absolute FAVORITE series. In fact, when the Hunger Games movies first came out my reaction was “Really??!?” because there are so many better books to be made into movies in the YA Dystopian genre. I ranted off a list of my favorites to my husband one night, and now a few years later most of my list has been made or is about to be (Divergent , the Maze Runner, and Unwind being the top 3 on my list!)
The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner – This is one of my absolute favorite authors and the maze runner is my all-time favorite series. I’ve read each of the books multiple times. I just love them. Surprises at every turn and the characters are stellar. Usually, after you’ve read multiple books by the same author you start being able to guess where he’s going with certain things. Not so with Dashner. I’ve read each of his books and the new ones are still surprising me with their twists! If you haven’t read the Maze Runner yet, hurry and get it to read before the movie comes out this september! It looks like the movie is going to be a great adaptation, and I can’t wait to see it!

I’ll be adding some of these to my reading list! I like to read similar types of books so this is great.
