We’ve all been there. You’ve spent hours trying to get your baby to fall asleep. Each time she settles you make the foolish mistake of trying to lay her down or even just reposition her so you can go get things done around the house. Then she starts screaming and you start all over again.
It’s like groundhog day in your own living room. There’s no escape.

Eventually, you learn, as we all have, that sometimes you’re just stuck under a sleeping baby. Nothing you can do about it, you might as well embrace it. It is hard to truly appreciate all the things you cannot do when stuck under a sleeping baby until it happens to you though.
Cooking dinner – This one is most fully appreciated if you have older kids who will screech and whine if dinner is more than 11 seconds late in its arrival at the table. But, when baby is sleeping on you, there’s not much you can do but point them towards the goldfish cabinet.
Reach the remote… Have you ever noticed that baby never falls asleep when you are within arms reach of the remote. Netflix and chill isn’t even an option. Thanks baby, thanks.
Change diapers – I don’t understand how babies can poop that spectacularly and remain asleep. What I do know is, holding a baby who needs a diaper change that also desperately needs this nap is not my favorite activity.
Pee – I feel like we don’t need much of an explanation here. But you’ve never known agony until you’ve known the struggle between needing to go to the bathroom more than you’ve ever had to go in your life and realizing that your baby will take at least another 90 minutes to get back to sleep if you dare move her so you can just pee already!
Open Snacks – Even if you planned ahead and brought a bag of chips with you when you sat down to rock the baby, the chances of you getting them open without waking kiddo are slim to none. You’ll just need to sit there not moving and hungry until naptime is over, mmmkay?
Talk on the phone – Nope. Just no. Listening to the radio might be okay, and you can leave the tv on if it was on to begin with, but phone talking is just a little too much. Baby can TELL if it’s you speaking and she’ll wake up just so she can scream over you and get you back to giving her undivided attention. That’s just how it goes.
I feel like I could keep this list going for hours. In fact, I asked a friend of mine for ideas to add to the list just for fun and without missing a beat she started listing off: zumba, the running man, record a podcast, sing opera… basically everything.
But. There’s one pretty awesome thing I just learned about a few months ago that you CAN do. I was actually a little bit mad when I learned about it to be honest with you. I was miffed that I hadn’t learned about it when my babies were little and I NEEDED THIS IN MY LIFE.
My friends, let me introduce you to BabyBin.
BabyBin is a genius subscription box for moms (and dads). They MAIL YOU BABY GEAR every month based on your baby’s developmental needs. Not only that, but you get to look through recommendations from mommy advocates who have been there. You can email back and forth with them, while you are stuck under baby and figure out what you want to receive in this month’s box. Then they ship it out to you.
You pay for what you keep and send back anything you decide you don’t need.
But let’s think this through for a minute.
This means no last minute running to Target to grab diapers or teethers because you already had it on hand. This takes all the guess work out of shopping for baby for you and it’s competitively priced so you don’t end up paying all this extra money for convenience. Y’all. This. Is. Brilliant. So I had to share!
They send only useful essentials, so you’ll see everyday clothes for baby, diapers, onesies, developmental toys, bottles and brushes and things of that nature. No frills and things you don’t really need for baby. The budget conscious side of me LOVES that! Also, you only pay for what you keep. And shipping is free to send back anything you change your mind about.
You can watch the video below to see more about how it works!
Have you found yourself stuck under a sleeping baby yet? Tell us what you couldn’t do in the comments, and then sign up for BabyBin here so you can make it the most productive time of your day next time!

I agree. You can’t talk on the phone when you’re stuck under a sleeping baby. However you absolutely can surf the web and get on Facebook ;)
