Shopping for preschoolers can be a fun challenge. Every preschool child I know (mine included) is absolutely swimming in toys. I feel like buying yet another toy for my child’s friends and cousins might not be the best idea, but at the same time, I don’t want to be that aunt who always offers Pajamas or socks and other things the kiddos don’t really want.
I’ve found some creative gifts for the kids through the years that have usually been more useful than yet another toy, but still something the kids get excited about! This post contains affiliate links.
DIY coloring book – Even though this one could officially fall into “toy” category, it’s much more fun than your typical plastic-something that you’d grab at a store. Using digital photos you can actually create a personalized coloring book for the kids. Mine absolutely LOVE coloring pictures of themselves and this has been a huge hit at birthday parties too. Best part is, it’s basically free. You just have to print them out and put them in one of those 30 cent binders!
Highlights Subscription – Instead of giving on gift, give them a gift every month! My son’s great Grandma bought him a subscription last year and he has LOVED getting mail with his name on it every month and working through all the little puzzles. It also gives us fresh stories to read together which is ALWAYS a good thing! You can subscribe on amazon. So easy!
ABC Mouse – It’s an educational website that helps kids learn through playtime. Kids are always trying to get more screen time, right? This is one okay way for them to get screen time because they are learning! You can let the little ones try it out for free for 30 days and go ahead and get them a year’s subscription if they love it!
Books – Books are the best! There’s and endless supply of good ones, and again you are giving the kids something a little more special than just a toy. It’s one on one time with mom or dad. Our favorites can be found here, here and here.
Zoo membership – If there is a zoo or children’s museum nearby, buying the family a membership t it can be one of the best gifts ever! My mother in law gets us a zoo membership each year and we end up going several times a month! It’s definitely one of our favorite gifts!
Do you buy toys, practical or out of the box things like this for the preschoolers in your life?
