It’s hard to believe that the back-to-school season is on us already! This year both of my kids will be trotting off to (pre)school with their little backpacks and lunch boxes.
While I do like to think ahead about what they will have in their lunch boxes, I’m never that mom who creates the beautiful bento boxes with crazy shapes or themed lunch days. I want healthy foods that fill their bellies, and things they’ll actually eat. I don’t want them drooling over their friend’s lunches or giving their teacher issues because they refuse to eat what I packed!
This is why I’m excited to be partnering with Horizon Organics to bring you these lunch box ideas! I like to encourage a healthy lifestyle with my kids and using organic snacks is one way we can do that, easily!
- Let them help pack – I figured out early on that lunches that my son got to help pack were eaten a lot more frequently than lunches I packed without his input. He knows what he wants to eat and it’s a fun way for us to spend time together on school days!
- Encourage healthy choices – Even though I let my kids pack, I still point them in the right direction. We choose Horizon Organic honey grahams over a sugary cookie option or Horizon Organic snack crackers instead of potato chips!
- If you pack juice boxes, freeze them the night before so they can double as an ice pack!
- Change things up – Don’t always give them the same things in their lunch boxes. Switch from sandwiches to quesadillas and from fresh fruit to using Horizon organic fruit snacks sometimes! There are so many possibilities! We change things by the week. They will get the same or similar lunches for one week and then the next week (after a grocery trip) they’ll get something else!
- Pack the night before – Don’t get caught up in the stresses of the morning, pack together the night before so all you have to do in the morning is grab the lunch box and go!
