Second babies oftentimes get the short end of the stick. They’re in hand-me-downs from their older sibling from day ONE, you can’t sit around and cuddle them all day because you have an older child to pay attention to as well and oftentimes the second child doesn’t even get a baby shower!
There are some benefits of being baby number two though… Parents are more confident in their decisions. Mom and dad know what they’re doing more this time, and aren’t as likely to get overly worried about little things that come up.
As a parent, having that second baby seemed like a REALLY BIG, scary thing. Then she came along…there were definitely challenges, but all in all it was much easier to have two than it was having that first baby!
Preparing logistically for the second child is a lot easier. You simply won’t need as many things because you already have some from your first. You can skip over huge purchases like crib and even car seat if your older child has already moved up a car seat size.
If your kids are the same gender you won’t even have to buy many more outfits! There are some things you will need though, and you don’t want to skip these!
A baby carrier – I didn’t use a carrier much with my first at all, but it was a life saver when we had our second. Running after a toddler, holding hands while crossing the street and grocery shopping are all only doable because of baby carriers. Buy one, borrow one, do whatever you need to do to get one before your second baby is born!
Baby food – By this time, you’ve probably found your favorite brands and flavors, little things that you learned from the first baby. A little tip? Get ready to try them all again because baby #2 will have her own opinions on flavors of food and will re-write the book for you on what type of food is preferable for a little, baby palate.
So many diapers – Stock up sister. Stock. Up. Somehow you forget between baby one and baby two just how many diapers a newborn goes through in a day. It’s astounding, really. Save yourself some trouble and buy in bulk!
Wipes – Goes along with the diapers, but I mention them separately because you really do learn a thing or two between baby number one and baby number two. It can help to look around at new products available, or products available in new, more convenient locations!
WaterWipes, for example are now at Walgreens, which makes it super convenient to just grab a pack on your way home. If you didn’t use these with your first you won’t know that they are chemical free baby wipes…with only two ingredients! 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.01% grapefruit seed extract. They are durable and they WORK… all while having NO harsh chemicals that many other wipes have. As an experienced mom, you know the difference something like that can make!
The last thing you’ll need before becoming a mom of two is a whole lot of patience! As chaotic as life can get with one child, it’s even more unpredictable with two. It’s a fun, beautiful journey, but one that requires lots of patience and willingness to laugh and challenges!
We have one last surprise before you go. WaterWipes and IC are hosting a giveaway where you could win one of five $100 Walgreens gift cards. The giveaway will run through October 7, 2016!
I-C will randomly select winners from all program entries and will facilitate fulfillment of the winning prizes (5 winners)
