Potty training is a big and intimidating undertaking. There are so many “methods” and opinions. so much to decide on before you begin.
I have read a lot about it, and I feel like I decided on a method to try. I also look at my little guy, and allthough he is only 16 months old, I think he could do it. A couple of times he has gone into his room, found a clean diaper and brought it to me when he is ready to be changed. He also tells me when he’s gone sometimes etc. different things like that, make me feel like if I chose to potty train him right now he could do it. I don’t want to wait too long if he could do it now because it would seem that it would only get harder as he gets more ‘used to’ going in his diaper. I feel like I’m training him that that’s normal, and I don’t want him to think that it is, now that he’s more aware of what he’s doing.
I have been considering when to start potty training for a couple months now. At first, I thought it would be easiest if I went ahead and did it now, before the new baby came. If I started training him now he would have a good 5 months to get used to it before the new baby and that was my original plan, but I think I have changed my mind. I’m worried about him needing to go all the time. What do I do if we walk to the park and then he decides he needs to go? there’s no restroom at the park we go to, so he would have to endure a 10 minute walk home and then not even get to play? What if he needs to go while we’re in the car on our way somewhere? I can see it being very practical and very nice when we’re home, but when we are out anywhere I worry that it won’t work well with him being so young.
Has any one else potty trained a younger kid (18 months or so)? Any tips you care to share? I would LOVE to have him potty trained and not have to worry about tackling that with a little baby around too. BUT I do wonder how do-able it would be when we are on the go. Especially since we go places a lot. when it is warm outside we are at the playground and pool almost every day.
So now, I’m leaning towards waiting. but I’m still thinking.
What age did you potty train your kids at? or are you still waiting?
this photo is from a few months ago… he’s obviously interested in the potty ;)
