I’ll be honest, I’ve always had a really hard time remembering to give my kids their vitamins each day. Even when I was pregnant, I struggled to take those huge prenatals each morning, trying to remember but realistically forgetting half the time. I’m determined to make a change this year, and get my kids and I on a better vitamin-taking schedule. I’m mildly anemic and could definitely use the boost in iron each morning from my vitamins and I know my kids would put theirs to good use in their little bodies as well!
It’s just vitamins! How can it be this hard to remember? I remember so many things each day, to feed the kids, clothe them, to check twitter and facebook, (real important things here people!), and to play trains…and yet, I can’t seem to consistently get vitamins in my kids or myself. I’ve been pondering this for awhile trying to come up with a good solution, I think I’ve found one, but we’ll see in a week or two how it turns out. First off, I went to Walgreens and got some new gummy Well at Walgreens children’s multivitamin gummies for the kids and some Well at Walgreens one daily multivitamins for me and got to planning!
At first, I thought I could just put the vitamins out on the counter where the kids can see them each day. My kiddos love vitamins (especially the gummy kind) and if either child spots them, they will both start asking for some. Unfortunately, I can’t leave them out on the counters because my kids are major climbers, and I’d worry that they would snatch them from the counter top and help themselves at some point.
I had to find a different solution. Instead of putting them where the kids can see them, or in their own cabinet in our kitchen, I’ve decided to start storing them directly in front of our breakfast foods. We usually have cereal or pop tarts for breakfast, so I just placed the canisters of vitamins on the shelf in front of those things. This way, I have to move the vitamins before I can get breakfast started. In doing that, I’ll remember to hand them out (hopefully).
I’m starting this week, to try to be better about vitamins, and there’s really no better time because the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment® is still going on until December 31st, 2014. During this time period 1¢ from the purchase of every Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness product, up to $3 million annually, will support bringing preventative wellness services to local communities through the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment®.
But really, I need your input, how do you remember to take your vitamins and give them to your kiddos each day? Share your best tips, in case my breakfast-area trick doesn’t work!!!
