We’ve talked a lot about how we start teaching our kids body safety rules as soon as they can talk, and how important even our most everyday interactions with kids can have on their worldview.
So far, I’ve covered this from the perspective of approaching difficult topics like this with preschool and elementary aged kids. I realized there’s a huge piece of the conversation missing though, and that’s what to tell the young women in our lives, and how to bring up these tough topics with them.
When I was approached to review the Wearsafe device and app, I knew this was the perfect way to fill in the blanks where our conversation about abuse prevention has been lacking.
Wearsafe is a small, discreet device that can be worn at all times. It works with your smartphone to alert friends or family members to an emergency.
To set it up, you can actually Try it free. They give you a free month’s use of the app and you get the device for free as well. After the initial month, the services go up to $5 a month, which to me, is more than worth it!
When you download the app it allows you to create a group of emergency contacts that will be alerted when you activate wearsafe. I love this feature because it could connect people who might not otherwise know to connect with each other, like parents out-of-state with best friends that live next door.
In the event of an emergency, all you have to do is discreetly push the Wearsafe tag. It will send a call for help to the emergency contacts, and stream live audio, without having to pull out a phone! It will also stream GPS location, so friends and family can call the police or ambulance if needed. It even silently vibrates to let you know when help is coming!
I LOVE that some one took the time to make this product to help keep our kids a little bit safer. To give them a clear chance to call for help if the worst happens.
While it might seem like a strange gift, I do want to start ordering these and giving them out at graduations as friends and family members head off to college.
I can see the usefulness of it for young women I know who go running alone for fitness.
I know there’s a fine line between teaching people to be terrified of the world, and equipping them to face both the best and the worst the world might offer them. But I see this as an amazing tool to help the young people in our lives be prepared for whatever they might face.
And it’s a great way to start the conversation about safety and make sure they know you’ll always believe them if something happens. Because it’s shocking the number of people who don’t.
I don’t love that we need this product, but I LOVE that it exists, and it exists in an affordable manner!
Who will you get wearsafe for? Are you like me with a list of friends and family members who could really use this?

Perfect statement that I agree with 100%…”I don’t love that we need this product, but I love that it exists.” This sounds like an awesome product that I am going to look into getting or recommending to a few people. Thanks for sharing.
