Hey there! Remember how we’ve been talking about going back to the old days of blogging? Where everybody felt like they knew each other and it was one big community. I am totally ready for that to be the way it is again, which is why I’ve been doing these fun “getting to know each other” and just simple “life” posts lately.
It’s been great hearing from you about your lives in the comments and on social media. So I had to do another one.
Payless was pretty rad about sponsoring our discussion today through IZEA, and I’m excited to share more about them with you in a bit!
Just for fun, here are some things you might not know.
When I was five I wanted to be a garbage truck driver when I grew up. I though the trucks were epic and awesome and I couldn’t imagine anything better in life than the opportunity to drive one.
Later, I moved my aspirations to be a fire fighter, then an author and later the stereotypical “vet”. I’m doing the author thing and have exactly zero interest in the others now. Particularly things involving large trucks. This is probably because I didn’t get my drivers license until I was 19.
I wasn’t in the country when I turned 16 and since I was living in a part of Asia with fabulous public transport readily available, there was no need for me to learn to drive until I moved back to the States. I was super uncomfortable driving until the last couple of years, and even avoided interstates for the first 3 years I had my license. Even though I can road trip with the best of them now, I don’t think I’ll be jumping into the drivers seat of a garbage truck any time soon.
Unrelated fun fact – When I went to get my tattoo I had planned to get a small, modest black outline of a stag on my wrist. No more than an inch and a half tall. What I ended up leaving with was a massive blue stag that takes up my entire forearm and I regret it exactly zero percent. I love my huge, unexpectedly colorful tatt and feel like more just might be coming in my future.
Lastly, I haven’t owned a pair of tennis shoes for 7 years. Until this week! I know, that probably sounds crazy, but I live in south Texas, there are about 3 days a year that you need close-toe shoes and I typically rock flip flops year round or little canvas shoes if it’s particularly cold out, and the main reason I even had those is because my mother-in-law gave them to me for Christmas one year.
In fact, this past April I did a 5k in flip flops because I realized the day before that I didn’t even own a pair of tennis shoes. Yeah, I realized I needed to fix that. So off to Payless we went! I’m pretty much the worst at shopping which is why I love the layout of Payless and how easy they make it for me to find what I need.
Everything that is in my size is in one section. I can see all my options at one time and compare. I tried on several pairs of tennis shoes and finally decided on these. They are gray, my favorite color and yes I chose the accent colors because they match my blog. I may be a bit of a nerd… The timing for this purchase ended up being perfect since it got freezing cold (55 degrees constitutes “freezing cold” by Texas standards) and a huge storm hit. So I’m no longer dodging puddles in flip flops or wet canvas shoes, both of which have been pretty miserable for the past 7 years, I can tell you.
While we were there my daughter fell in love with these sparkly Frozen shoes and simply had to have them. They light up, they have Elsa AND Anna on the side and Olaf on the bottom. It’s perfection in every little girl’s mind, right there. She is so proud of them, and pretty excited about how fast she can run in them. She had been rocking some hot pink cowgirl boots all Summer but they are hard to run in, so she’s much faster now which makes her very happy during playground time at school.
I love all the affordable and on-trend options in Payless, for the whole family! I found these adorable flats on clearance for just $7. I tried them on and they were pretty much perfect!
I managed to leave them at the store, but it was a struggle, let me tell you! I love that it can be a quick shopping trip at Payless. We were in and out before the kids went wild, which doesn’t always happen in other stores I can tell you that. Sure, that’s just life with kids, but when we can easily find what we need so we can get things done faster that makes for one happy mama and two happy kiddos!
Especially if it also means sparkly Elsa shoes for my little girl! If you have shoe-shopping to do this holiday season stop in to Payless. Grab some tennis shoes if, like me, you don’t have any… or get some of their adorable boots, kids shoes or something from the men’s section for your spouse! Be sure to follow Payless on Pinterest for extra tips!
While we’re chatting today, what’s one thing I might not know about you? Share in the comments!

It’s adorable how little kids think that ALL new shoes make you run faster. Although if you’re switching from boots to tennis shoes, it’s a true statement! Congrats on your first pair of tennies in 7 years. That’s long time to not have tennis shoes! ;) Something most people don’t know about me is I don’t like to get wet. I love the beach and lounging by the pool, but you can keep your raft cuz I don’t wanna get in! :D
