Congrats! You’re pregnant! But now what? Suddenly those 9 months don’t seem long enough to accomplish everything that needs done before baby arrives in your arms. Where do you even begin?
Figure out when to tell people
At first glance, it seems easy, can’t you just start shouting from the rooftops that you’re having a baby? Nope. Make a list of people in both of your lives who need to “know first”. These are the ones that would be offended if they found out via Facebook or even if they knew that someone else knew you were expecting before you told them. It may sound silly, but it’s a big deal to some people. Make sure your announcements aren’t tainted by hurt feelings by taking the time to figure out who needs to know first in each of your circles, and calling them before you let it slip to anyone else.
Take a “before” shot
Trust me, nine months from now you’ll want a photo to compare how big your belly grew from start to finish! Even if it’s just a quick bathroom selfie from the side, there’s nothing like that initial “just found out there’s a baby in there” photo.
Start taking vitamins
Starting on your prenatal vitamins is a must from the first moment you find out you’re pregnant. You can find prenatals at most grocery stores. These will help you with nutrients you need like folic acid, iodine, Vitamin D and more.
Extra nutrition*
Remember that you are eating for two, that doesn’t just mean eat whatever you want… try to make sure you are eating things high in the nutrition your baby needs to grow. For example, baby’s heart, muscles, bones and more depend on calcium for growth. If you don’t have enough calcium in your daily diet baby will start draining it from your bones. YIKES. Most prenatal vitamins only contain 20%-30% of the calcium you need. Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews can be a great way to get the rest of the calcium that your baby needs. I love that they are so small so you can usually manage to keep one or two down even if morning sickness is already coming up. You can download a $2 off coupon here. They come in chocolate AND caramel flavors so you can find something that works for you! #ViactivBabyBump
Buy a Nightlight
For real, you’ll be making trips to the bathroom all night from now until baby comes. You’ll want the extra lighting.
Get a good pregnancy book
Invest in a good pregnancy book like the famous “what to expect” and then do your best to stay off google. The internet is a scary place when researching symptoms, and it can be hard to check out the legitimacy of a website. Stick with a book that has stood the test of time so you can trust the information given inside it.
Set a Dr appointment
Many OB/GYNs won’t see you until you are a little bit farther along, but it’s still a good idea to find a good Dr and set up an appointment, so you can be seen in a timely manner.
Try to relax
Pregnancy is exciting, but it can be stressful too. Try to relax and enjoy it as much as you can. Surround yourself with people who are excited for you and supportive of your baby to help create a nurturing and happy environment for your pregnancy.

Excellent list! I’d add: Call someone who will be EXCITED for you! Whatever the circumstances of pregnancy, a brand new person is worth celebrating :-D My dad was in med school when I was born and everyone in my parents’ life reacted to their announcement with “Really? Before Rich graduates?” The only person who was happy for them was a little old rabbi down the hall from them in their apartment building. They hardly even knew him but my mom still tears up when she reflects on how happy and excited he was for her. She NEEDED that encouragement and so do you! So if you don’t anticipate a joyous “YAAAAAYYYY!” from someone (or if they surprise you with a lackluster reaction), call somebody else first :) Heck – call me and I’ll be excited for and with you!
