I breastfed my son until his first birthday. I hated it and was counting down the days until he turned one and I could switch him to cow’s milk.
Then my daughter came along. The day she was born I looked at my Mother-in-law as I nursed her for the first time and said “Just 365 more days of nursing and I’m DONE”. Nursing is not my thing, but we dont’ have a lot of money to spare, and it’s healthy, so I did it anyway.
I did it until my little girl, at 9 months old was diagnosed with failure to thrive, She was steadily losing weight. A small baby isn’t as much cause for concern, but when an already small baby girl loses a pound in a matter of weeks, it gets scary fast.
Among other things her dr. said we should try supplementing with formula and eventually switch her 100% to formula if possible. The medical bills were piling up and formula had not been something we had planned to have in our budget. But we made it work by using store brand formula. It’s literally half the price, but the quality is the same, if not better!
For my little girl, my milk was just not cutting it. I have my own issues with eating enough and I couldn’t keep up with her needs to produce milk that would help her grow. Formula saved my baby girl and for that I am so immensely thankful.
SIMPLY RIGHT ™ formula has been Clinically proven to support growth and development, now with Lutein for brain and eye health. If you click that link you can see an awesome little formula savings calculator. You can type in what type of formula you are considering and it will show you how much you will save every month and every year by switching!
My little girl is pas the formula stage now. She eats constantly and is growing properly, but I’ll never forget those terrifying months when we weren’t sure what was wrong with her or what we should do to fix it.
I can’t describe how thankful I am to live in this day and age where formula is readily availabe and can be found at affordable prices like the SIMPLY RIGHT ™ brand at Sam’s club. Although it can be something controversial in this day and age, I view it as a gift, and I am so incredibly thankful.

I’m definitely feeling you on this.
My daughter was born early, and just 3.8 lbs. I pumped because I wanted to feel like I was doing something for her when I was otherwise pretty powerless. However, she still needed a high-calorie fortifier mixed into breastmilk in order to gain weight. She never would latch on once she came home, so my supply dried up when she was around 3 months.
I will always be incredibly thankful for the makers of formula; both the high-calorie fortifier and later a high-calorie formula is what kept my baby girl alive and well.
Yay for happy, well-fed babies and all the companies that make it possible :)

I did! I was just barely 19, I was a living breathing stressball and couldn’t produce enough. So I fed when there was milk in there, but supplemented when there wasn’t or when she didn’t get enough. At the 4 week mark I was totally dried up so she was formula since then. The few times I did feed her from the breast though I hated it, it was not enjoyable. I loved bottle feeding and looked forward to feeding her then. :)
