My daughter has always been tiny. She was born almost two full pounds smaller than her older brother. It was nothing to worry about at first, but when she was 9 months old her pediatrician diagnosed her with failure to thrive. Even after working through the issues that caused it, she had a lot of catching up to do growth-wise. She’d fallen completely off the growth chart for her age and remained on the small side of the scale for a long time.
While at the time this was a really scary situation, I’ve found that it’s not too uncommon for little ones to need a little help growing big and strong sometimes.
I’ve met lots of moms in the same situation, so I thought it would be great to talk about how we worked through it here today. When she was still a baby we had all sorts of tactics to get extra forumla in her to give her the nutrients she needed, but when she grew up to be a toddler, her pediatrician recommended PediaSure® to help her grow.
Even though she’s grown a lot since that early scare, we still get PediaSure® Grow & Gain from time to time. They have tasty flavors in little shakes that she loves. There’s chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana and berry and you can get them at Walmart or online at Walmart.com
If you are giving you child a shake or two a day though, you might find yourself needing to get creative so they continue wanting them.
I love that PediaSure® has come up with so many great recipes that include their drinks so that kids can get them in as many ways as they need. From chicken nugget batter to dip and even these fun recipes we shared today.
One of the smartest things they suggested was making your child’s oatmeal and instead of using water, using PediaSure®
Our packets of oatmeal call for 2/3 cups of water, and instead we substituted for 2/3 a bottle of strawberry flavor shake PediaSure®. It added great flavor and is a sneaky way to get the kids some extra nutrients! You can even add slices of fresh strawberries in the Summertime to make it even better!
Next, we tried making the tasty chocolate pudding!
Use an instant chocolate pudding mix and two bottles of PediaSure® Chocolate Flavor Shake and mix!
We had this just tonight and both kids LOVED it! While they were grinning over the flavor I appreciated that it’s the #1 pediatrician recommended brand (my pediatrician recommended it for us!) and that 2 PediaSure® shakes a day is clinically proven to help kids gain weight in just 8 weeks. While that may not seem like a big deal, for those who have kids who struggled with weight, it can be HUGE.
I wanted to encourage you if you are trying to figure out how to get your picky eater to grow or just worried that you are the only one facing this problem! We’re in it together! Also, if you are budget conscious like me, if you sign up for the PediaSure® newsletter you’ll get a $3 off any 2 PediaSure coupon and so much more emailed to you! That can go a long way, especially if you are needing your child to drink 2 a day.
I also appreciate all of the different recipe ideas, that way even parents with the pickiest of kids can find a way that will suit their child to help them get more of the nutrition they need for growth!
