Hey everyone! I’m Ashley from 3 Little Greenwoods!
Today I’m excited to share with you how my sons and I created a Simple DIY Campout Birthday Banner for their Backyard Campout Birthday Party!
Everyone knows that banners are all the rage but how do you make a birthday banner cool for two rough and tumble boys? No way there could be fancy embellishments or ribbons attached to it. Plus any banners we made also had to be super cheap!
Brown bulletin board paper would be perfect for the woodsy campout theme we were going for but since I’m not teaching I didn’t have access to that material. I started racking my brain for an alternative and came up with brown paper grocery bags!
Here’s all you need to make your own Campout Banner:
new (clean) brown paper grocery bags
black paint
yarn or string
stapler
I picked up new bags from our local Aldi’s for less than 10 cents a piece.
To open the bags up, I cut the sides following the fold creases. Once the bag was opened up it made the perfect canvas for a banner. :)
I folded back the edges then I used a crayon to write the words (I’m a teeny bit too controlling to let the boys start painting all willy nilly).
Little Boy got to work on the “tent signs” with a small brush and black paint. He simply painted over the words I wrote.
After the “tent signs” were finished, he started on a huge banner to welcome the other campers to the party. The “welcome” banner was made by stapling two opened paper bags together.
Hanging the signs was a snap! I just folded over and stapled the top edge to make a pocket for the yarn/string to be threaded through. The bottom edge was stapled in place too. That added a little weight to the banner so it didn’t blow around too much in the wind.
All of the signs looked fabulous displayed around the camp site!
The boys loved having to separate tents for their friends!
Several tall branches secured in large flower pots were used to hang the “welcome” banner over one of the tables. Notice that there is yarn strung through both the top and bottom folds of the banner.
All of our friends and family had the best time at the Backyard Campout Birthday Party! Hop over to 3 Little Greenwoods to see how we created TWO camping birthday cakes {Campfire Birthday Cake and Campout Tent Birthday Cake} and the entire party post!
Your comments totally make my day! They give me huge motivation to
keep creating and having fun with my 3 Little Greenwoods!
