A couple of weeks ago I told you I was joining in with Frost Bank’s 30-Day Optimism Challenge.
The challenge officially started 10 days ago, but there’s still time to join in! You can sign up here for free to do it along with me if you’d like!
10 days in, and I have to say, I’m really enjoying this! I’ve never done anything like an Optimism Challenge before. In fact, my husband laughed a bit when I told him I was going for it, because it’s not really something that you’d immediately associate with my personality.
But this is awesome!!!
Every day Frost sends an email with a different prompt.
It’s just one small thing you can do to spread positivity and joy around you.
These challenges can be done individually, or as a group or family.
On day one, the challenge was to list 5 things you are grateful for, and put it somewhere you’d see it daily.
This was such a fun activity, I decided to ask my daughter to do the same. She had so much fun coming up with her five things, and it’s a small way to teach her to be a little more optimistic too (especially in the middle of a stressful week as she gets ready for school to start again!)
I don’t know if you can read her list above but it says she’s thankful for “roller skates and God, school, candy and Christmas”. Her writing isn’t quite small enough for a sticky note, so we used a bigger sheet of paper for her list.
The challenges have come one a day for the last 10 days and it’s been awesome.
While you can try to do one each day, and most of them are easily doable that day, there are a couple that have been put off to another day. Day 6 had the action of leaving an amazing tip for great service, and since I haven’t been anywhere that has tipping yet, I’ve saved that one for a later day.
But I have:
Called a family member
Wrote an encouraging note
Done a favor for some one without asking them
and even deleted unused apps from my phone.
The challenges are stacking up, and it feels good to be able to look at the list and see what’s been accomplished in just 10 days.
Challenge number 10 was especially meaningful to me. As someone who spends the majority of my time online and specifically on social media (for work), I know just how toxic of a place social media can be. Day 10 (that’s today!) Frost challenged all of us to “Celebrate someone other than yourself on social media today”.
I loved this challenge, because responsible social media use is something I think about constantly. People use social media to connect with one another, but statistics show that it makes many people feel more alone and depressed than they were before they logged on.
Using social media differently can go a long way in helping both you and the people around you have a more optimistic outlook on life, so I encourage you to take this day 10 challenge AND join me for the rest of the 30 days as well (I got a sneak peek at tomorrow’s challenge too and I REALLY can’t wait to get it done!)
This optimism challenge is all about being kind to yourself and others and spreading positivity that way.
I can’t wait to see how the next 20 days of this challenge go!
