With the stomach flu going around already this year, I thought it would be super helpful to share tips on how to help cure that upset belly! From everyday cramps to the full-on stomach flu, I’ll share my best tips here and would LOVE to hear yours in the comments (scroll to the bottom for a great, giveaway as well!)
Getting sick is never fun, and can be even worse when you have kiddos to take care of while you are sick. Tips for entertaining a sick kiddo can also apply to keeping kids entertained while YOU are sick! Be it the flu or just an recurringly uncomfortable stomach, here are some tips to help you feel your best!
- Drink more water – Too many sodas or coffees can definitely contribute to an unhappy belly! If you have the flu, you definitely want to stay hydrated so drinking more can help you feel better and stay better!
- Watch what you eat – I’m not a health nut, but even I have noticed that I just don’t feel as good when I’m overdoing it on sweets or foods that have zero nutritional value (donuts, I’m looking at you). For me it’s all about finding that balance between healthy eating (without obsessing over it), convenience and still enjoying foods that I love.
- Crackers and toast – Salty crackers – every nauseous pregnant woman’s best friend! They work for regular, everyday nausea and upset stomachs too though.
- Activia challenge! – Activia is challenging people to eat two servings a day for 30 days to see the difference it makes in how their stomachs feel.
For those of you doing the Activia Challenge with me, we are now at the halfway point! I’ve definitely eaten more yogurt than I normally do in the past couple of weeks, but it has been a fun and healthy excercise for me.
I definitely appreciate the flavor varieties that are offered and even my kiddos have been enjoying trying out the various kinds!
I always love strawberry yogurt, but we’ve been enjoying the vanilla, peach and black cherry as well. Thankfully, they are all tasty so I’ve been letting the 3 year old pick ANY of them that he wants at the store. He loves having the power to choose!
In addition to the regular flavors of yogurt, they also offer Activa Greek yogurt (and light Greek yogurt) smoothies, light regular yogurt and Fiber yogurt! I love the smoothie option because it gives me something I can have on the go. Perfect for preschool drop-off day or when I’m loading the kids in the car for a trip to the zoo! On those days I usually tend to skip breakfast for lack of time, so being able to grab a smoothie to drink in the car can be so helpful! The Greek yogurts even come with fruit on the bottom options which is always fun!
These also make a great after-dinner snack, when you are craving something sweet but don’t want to have that late night ice cream or cookie.
How are you doing in your Activia Challenge? A great way to stay motivated is to do the Challenge with others, so grab your best friend, sister, or neighbor, and have them get started today! It’s nice to keep these on hand for those times when your belly is just not feeling it’s best. In my experience, it really does help to calm your belly, both in the short term and in the long term!
