Today I’m joined up with 5-minute friday from Lisa Jo Baker. 5 minutes of writing on a one-word prompt. No editing or back tracking. Just free writing, for the love of it. Today’s prompt is the word “hero”.
I always joke that I just want to be as cool in my daughters eyes, as my husband. He is her entire world, she squeals with delight when he gets home and giggles when he plays with her. He sneaks her snacks first thing in the morning, before her brother and I are even awake and he never stops telling her she’s beautiful.
He is the main reason that, when she plays with her dolls she’s constantly saying “good girl” to them, and smiling sweetly. Because that’s what she hears. That’s the love she knows from a daddy who could not possibly love her any more than he already does.
He’s her hero and she doesn’t even know that word yet. She can barely articulate what she’d like to say, or want to ask. But there are some questions, she doesn’t need to ask. Like if he will always be there, or if she’s beautiful. He affirms those things every day. And while they may not mean as much to her while she’s 18 months old, they will one day.
The love he has for her is like nothing else I’ve ever seen. Not that it’s any less than the love he has for our son. There are no favorites or competing, Princess is just wholeheartedly a daddy’s girl, and they both love that.
He takes care of our kids, and loves them freely and without measure, and for that, he’s my hero.
