Improves memory and listening skills – Children work on memorizing songs, and listening for their part in a musical piece, exercising great skills that they will use later in life, regardless of the profession or future interests.
Develops language skills – Learning to read music, is a lot like learning a new language! This can also improve their ability to learn a second, spoken language later in life.
Improves hand/eye coordination – The specific movements and gestures that must be done in order to play an instrument correctly greatly assist a child’s coordination and muscle control.
Focus – Studying music helps a child learn to focus, which can improve their test skills and concentration on future jobs.
Confidence – Preforming music can boost a child’s confidence and help them to overcome stage fright.
Creative thinking – Music Education helps a child learn to consider problems creatively and encourages them to discover multiple solutions to problems.
Discipline – Constantly practicing and scheduling lessons improves a child’s work ethic and teaches them patience as they must work hard to improve. These skills will be invaluable as the child grows into an adult.

Love this post. My daughter practice piano. There are so many great benefits of studying music. Even though she hates practicing, she loves the joy of music and being able to play for the family. I’m hoping that she continues throughout life.

Don’t forget about learning music for the sake of learning, enjoying and appreciating music. All the other benefits are secondary in my opinion. It is never to late to facilitate our children’s love for music. I am collaborating with another blogger on a series about different aspects of music for young children. You should check it out. I also have a post I would like to share:

What a great reminder of how important it is to learn music! Yes, I learnt classical piano as a child for seven years and while I thought it was painful at the time to practice every day, I appreciate now that my mum made me take lessons! I plan on getting my son lessons in the instrument of his choice once he’s turned nine. I would say that the most important benefit from my point of view as his mum would be how learning an instrument improves focus. Great post!

Music is essential and has such wonderful benefits! Nice post. Not all children learn the same and playing an instrument or singing could be the thing that keeps them happy and interested in school.

Paula,
What you have said is true, but now there is actual scientific research being done at Northwestern University that has begun to analytically proving the effects on the physical brain as a result of music education. You can learn about it on their website: http://www.soc.northwestern.edu/brainvolts/
I am the Chairman of “Spirit Of Harmony” a newly forming non-profit foundation to support and advocate for music education, founded and led by Todd Rundgren. If you have some time, please visit out site.

Music helps to speed up the process of speech development in children. Fortunately, there are now more than enough different courses that can help you with this, I advise you to learn more about this here https://amwilmusicdrama.com/our-courses/violin/
