Laundry. The never ending struggle. The ceaseless task. We’ve all seen the memes about “loving those 14 seconds when all the laundry is done”, but I just don’t get it. I don’t think I’ve had 14 seconds with no laundry since the day I brought my firstborn home from the hospital.
Stop folding – Really, I stopped folding pretty much all of the clothes. My husband and I hang all of our shirts, underwear/socks don’t need folding and it only takes a minute to do the jeans! I don’t fold any of the children’s clothes because they are constantly digging through to find what they want. No reason to fold, just to have the kids mess them up 20 minutes later! This ends up saving so much time because I just have to wash, dry and sort! No worries about kids knocking over piles of folded clothing either!
Hamper Placement – Placing the hampers in the most convenient location, really does make all the difference in clothes actually being placed in the hampers. Ours are now in the bathrooms and it’s amazing how (almost) everything reaches the hamper now, which means I know when people are out of clothes!
Only Once – Washing once really does cut back on the time spent doing laundry. Now we all have those days when we forget to switch the laundry out, but I’m trying something to help avoid that. I put laundry in the wash while making breakfast, and into the dryer as I prep dinner. This helps me remember to do laundry, when I associate them together. It’s not like my kids will let me forget to feed them!
Detergent that works – Make sure that you are getting a detergent that works the first time. Double washing because things aren’t clean enough is one of the most irritating things to do! It’s worth the extra time it takes to find the best detergents! For example method is a new (and awesome) 4x concentrated laundry detergent—naturally derived cleaning power that is tough on dirt and stains. It helps keep colors bright and colors white! It is also hypoallergenic, and works awesome in cold water (I only ever wash in cold). You can even get $3 off with this coupon code, so you can try it out for yourself!
What are your laundry methods that help keep things in line and working great? I’d love to hear your tips!

I love your idea of the hamper placement. I agree, you might as well put the hamper where the clothes fall!
I try to wash the boys’ clothes together, separate from ours – since their closets are on the second floor and our closets are on the first floor! It sounds lazy, but it works!

I love the idea of associating the laundry with other things! I am terrible at forgetting to put it in the dryer and then end up having to run it through again!

i have 4 kids 6 and under. I keep up on the washing and drying but never putting it away. I now have 4 baskets set up that I sort the clean clothes right into. It’s in my room- on my floor and also where w/d are located. The kids who dress themselves come and pick clothes from basket and put dirty clothes into hamper in my room. I no longer have to search house for dirty clothes, carry laundry up and down stairs and I only fold and put away my own clothes. I love it!

I appreciate the clever hamper placement idea, strategically putting it where clothes naturally accumulate. Separating laundry by floor, washing the boys’ clothes together on the second floor and ours on the first, simplifies the process efficiently. closest laundromat
