Have you noticed that there is a baby version of everything these days? Yep, some of it makes sense, baby food? obviously. Baby diapers? Definitely. Baby laundry detergent? Ummm. Baby wash? ehhh not necessarily.
We all want what’s best for our little ones, but let’s not get carried away. While the baby books and baby stores will tell you that everything in your home now needs the word “baby” put in front of it. Every item you purchase from the store must have been specifically crafted for your infant, that’s simply not the case.
I love walking down memory lane and remembering those early days with my babies. I thought I needed every baby thing under the sun! Especially when I realized my daughter had sensitive skin! I knew I’d need all the extra special baby type things to take care of her right? Or…maybe not.
Let’s talk about those products that have been unnecessarily “babied”
Baby detergent – okay really? Baby detergent because baby clothes are that much different than adult clothes? Nope. Don’t need it. If you are concerned about your little one’s skin just get the regular sensitive detergent. It doesn’t need the word “baby” added to it for an additional $5.
Baby food processor – That lovely baby food you want to make for your kiddo? Skip the $400 baby food maker and go with the $20 blender you already have in your kitchen. It will work just fine!
Baby knee pads – Did you know that’s a thing? Because it is. Babies have sensitive knees apparently. They are adorable and soft but they can totally handle crawling around all day without knee pads. Save those for when they are kids and learning to roller skate.
Baby music – It’s just like regular music…only more annoying. Just don’t. Let your baby grow up listening to the good stuff (whatever that means to you).
Baby perfumes – Have you ever smelled a baby? There’s literally no better smell in the world. Don’t try to cover that up with even the most lovely scented of baby perfumes!
Baby bedding – It’s adorable and matches the nursery…but have you noticed that every piece of baby advice ever says not to put things in the crib with baby. Like, for example heavy “baby” comforters and useless decorative pillows and such. Baby bedding is used to decorate the nursery before baby is born and great for a couple photos and then baby arrives and it gets shoved in a closet and remains in the way for the rest of your life because you can never quite seem to part with it. True story, y’all.
Baby robe – In what scenario does a baby need a robe? Think it through. 30 seconds after bath for a cute photo and then you’re done. Never getting that thing out again.
Baby cleanser – Yes, babies get dirty, but you don’t have to go out of your way to buy a different kind of cleanser. Now yes, choosing the right skincare products is important with babies (and kids). But instead of tough soaps you can go with the Dove sensitive skin beauty bar. It’s proven to be more gentle and mild than soap, it’s dye free and gentle enough to use for infants and children with eczema.
Did you buy any of these babied products that aren’t really needed? Did you find them essential?
Have you tried the Dove sensitive skin beauty bar for you or your kids/baby yet? It is the #1 Dermatologist and Pediatrician recommended bar, containing DEFI technology, mild cleansers, and 1⁄4 moisturizing cream to cleanse and care for baby’s skin.
