Are you excited about the new Peanuts movie coming out this year? We can hardly wait! My son has been begging to go see a movie in the theaters but we’ve been waiting for just the right one for his first. I think the Peanuts movie will be a perfect one to start him off with! The movie release is November 6th which is right around his fifth birthday. So perfect!
To celebrate the movie release we came up with some fun Peanuts inspired popcorn balls.
We were so excited when we went to our local Randalls to buy what we needed for our recipe and were so excited to see that when we bought the things for our recipe we got a free Peanuts trick or treat bag! (It can double as a shopping bag the rest of the year… either way, my kiddos LOVE it!) If you purchase three participating items you get the free bag.
There’s a huge list of them, but the popcorn we used was on the list in addition to our Bertolli sauce we got for dinner and the Tyson chicken nuggets I was grabbing for snack time the next day!
What you need for the Peanuts popcorn balls
- Five packs of Pop Secret popcorn
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 2 teaspoons cold water
- 1 and 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp maple extract
- 1 cup marshmallows
- yellow food coloring
- brown edible marker or chocolate syrup
Pop all the bags of Pop Secret popcorn and put them in a large mixing bowl. While they are popping cook the rest of the ingredients (other than the marker) in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Carefully pour the hot mixture over the popcorn and stir with a wooden spoon until all the popcorn is covered in yellow.
Quickly form popcorn into balls before they cool and set. Then drizzle chocolate syrup over them in a zig zag form to make the Charlie Brown signature shirt design!
Such a fun snack to get you ready for the Peanuts movie to come out! Are you going to see it?
