Introducing…the Sensory scavenger hunt! Do your kids love scavenger hunts? Mine do. We have done many scavenger hunts around here; shape hunts, color hunts, hunts to find hidden things, letter hunts, etc., but for this particular scavenger hunt, I wanted to do something different. I wanted the kids to find the items on the list by using their sense of touch.
I came up with descriptive words for different “textures” they would know.
I gave each child a drawstring bag and the rule was that the items they found had to fit inside their bag.
The kids had a lot of fun with this hunt and it was fun to see them walking around and exploring nature through touch. They loved the other nature hunts we have done, but to actually get down and have to feel the things in nature to find what we were looking for was a new exciting adventure.
The kids were surprised that some of the things they see on the ground every day was soft, pointy, bumpy etc!
In the end, we shared what we found for each texture. I think The Touch Scavenger Hunt would be fun to do in every season (summer, fall, winter, spring) and then compare the different textures you find in each season.
