Of all the house hold responsibilities, those that involve the kitchen are my least favorite. Washing the dirty dishes is no exception. I tend to get a little lazy on the weekends and let it all pile up on me, and then I’m always severely disappointed on Sunday night, when the dishes are just sitting there waiting for me instead of just cleaning themselves up and going away like any decent dirty dish should.
I have come to doubt that my kitchen will ever be spotless…but I am going to try to keep this from happening quite as much.
What about you? What is your least favorite household responsibility? Do you procrastinate like I do? Or do you have a better handle on the chores you dislike?

Dishes are such a big deal for me, especially since my 5 year old daughter empties the dishwasher for me to fill back up. Laundry, however, is the bane of my existence. I’m never caught up, it’s always piled around the house, and I hate putting it away. Plus we share a washing machine with our landlady and since the machine is in her portion of the house, it’s not always available to me.

I know that scene! I have a bad habit of leaving the mess until later as well. Of course, by the time “later” arrives a meal needs to be prepared and there is no space, knives, measuring cups etc. There is also the fact that our kitchen is unavoidable as it’s part of the completely open floorplan of our downstairs. If this room is messy, then the entire bottom floor (which where any guest would be) is a mess. I’ve learned better ways for managing my kitchen from my mother-in-law (she’s amazing!). She ALWAYS cleans the kitchen back after each meal so that she’s ready for the next meal. She also never goes to bed without the kitchen being clean so that she’ll have a fresh start for the next day. It’s a lot of work, but she is diligent and doesn’t complain. She has a wealth of home management wisdom, and I always enjoy being around her and picking up a bit or two of it. Slowly but surely I’m making progress in working towards adopting better habits. :)

When I let my dishes pile up it can be overwhelming! However, I just recently started really focusing on cleaning up as I go. I try to put the clean dishes away as soon as the dishwasher is done so that as I dirty other dishes I can just slip them in the dishwasher. When I stick with this plan, the dishes never get to an overwhelming amount! I love it!

One thing that helps me is to run a sink-ful of sudsy water when I begin dinner preparation. I toss dirty dishes and utensils in as I use them. That way they don’t get crusty and hard to clean, and when I have a few minutes while dinner is cooking, I can wash them up and make room for the dinner dishes. That’s my 2 cents worth! Visiting today from Hungry for God . . . Starving for Time and glad I did :)

That is a great idea!! I’m going to have to try that.

I don’t mind the washing as much as I strongly dislike (hate) putting them away. Don’t ask. I don’t understand it either.

Dishes, dishes everywhere, in the sink, in the dishwasher. I’m glad I am not the only one! Dishes are the equivalent to laundry. It never goes away.

YAY!! MY FAMILY ISN’T THE ONLY ONE WHOSE COUNTER AND SINK LOOK LIKE THAT ON OCCASION!!!! WOOT! my sister would be so happy lol. and to answer your question LAUNDRY! for me as a Daughter-in-Training, that is the easiest one to forget. Homeschooling? You HAVE to keep up on it/with it and the kids as they go. Dishes and meals? you have to keep up on it b/c everyone needs to eat and we like to do it on clean dishes thankyou. But that laundry? oh man. It can pile up and pile up in that dark, menacing room, and until Dad comes to you and goes, “um, I don’t have any black socks. And can you iron my workshirt for tomorrow?” and even YOU don’t have clean undergarments, you TOTALLY FORGET! lol (or choose to forget! !!!! :) )

Oh! You’ve been to my house!!! ROFLOL! I actually like doing dishes…but I hate cleaning the bathroom and ironing. I’ll confess, I can count on ONE hand (and not use all of my fingers) the number of items I’ve ironed since we moved into our home 9 months ago. I don’t have a place for my ironing board, and I just never seem to find the time to do it. So, if a shirt or pair of pants are intolerably wrinkled, we just do a quick job on the bed. I NEED to fix that. But maybe when it’s not 90+ degrees outside. I’ll wait for fall. hahah!
